Pleasure lies in the ordinary

A couple of conflicts in the schedule, endless stream of commitments, disturbances, one or two dramas, a string of gossips; all of us could really do with a lot less of these fore mentioned things in our daily lives. Every so often we might feel like there is nothing interesting going on in our lives without a few of these things, however what we fail to grasp is that the actual pleasure lies in the mundane.

First of all, please allow me to shade some light on what mundane, ordinary stuffs are like; it's simply finding joy in your morning cup of coffee, enjoying the moment when you get to sleep in, reading a book you have longed for, eating your favorite dessert right after a heavy meal, lazing around on a Sunday, staying home on a Friday night while everyone else is out partying, watching Netflix all day long, singing your heart out to a catchy song, dancing to the beat, watching a heavy downpour with a cup of green tea, and so goes the ever expanding list, depending on your personal desires.

Why does the simple things in life matter so much? Because when everything else goes wrong, this is where you will turn to for comfort, more like a safe zone. While too much of anything is destructive, one should never underestimate the importance of the plain, boring things in life once in a blue moon for it provides some kind of clarity, warmth, tranquility, and contentment as a whole package.

Majority of people generally miscalculate the gift that lies in the common; it is more like a blessing in disguise. We always try to run away from it in search of something more; more goals to achieve, more things to add on our to-do-list, more associates to surround ourselves with, and so on but little do we realize that all we ever need is nothing more than the effortless luxury of simplicity when we have too much on our plate to deal with.

Hence to bring down the curtain, we should welcome the lack of mere beautification of our day-to-day lives a bit more by the reason of leading an uncomplicated, calm life on good terms and we should also shy away from putting down something which holds such power and potential within itself. All I am trying to say is take some time out of your packed schedule to enjoy the simple things in life; slow down to smell the roses and daisies even, feel the droplets of rain, bask in the glory of sunshine, cherish the rainbow, let the ice cream melt and drip down your wrist because this is what life is worth living for when the Sun settles at dusk.
